Disney as a transnational corporation
Transnational can "be understood as the global forces that link people or institutions across nations. Key to transnationalism is the recognition of the decline of national sovereignty as a regulatory force in global coexistence" (Ezra & Rowden, 2006, p. 1). It is hard to assign a specific national identity to many films as there are countless influencing factors that affect a films nationality, for example the films place of production, the nationality of the actors/actresses, the nationality of the filmmakers and what country the funding comes from, and to some extent the themes addressed in the film. Disney is a company that can "successfully trade on its name worldwide. It is a name that is clearly differentiated from all other entertainment products and services" (Garsham, 1996, p. 7) allowing the company to become Transnational because it is a universal term which reaches to every corner of the world.
